When friends and family learned we were taking this trip, they immediately began firing off questions. Over the past 3 years we have asked ourselves these same questions, whether it’s as simple as “Where do you want to go?” or as complex as “How do you plan it all?”. We’ve done a lot of thinking, researching, and executing, easily over 100 hours, to get ourselves ready for this journey. Our research and planning has had us talking to both friends and strangers, visiting loads of websites, looking at Google Maps repeatedly, viewing hundreds of amazing photos of far off places, and learning about the tedious requirements to visit them.
Over the years we have found frustrating to have to sift through tons of online resources just to find basic information and wanted to attempt to create a basic resource for all of it. Most resources tend to fall into one of two camps: purely informational (visa requirements, vaccination information, hotel listings, etc) & personal narratives (some stranger’s personal account of their 3 days in a location). Both are useful in their own way, but we found the purely informational approach to be very disconnected and scattered. The personal narratives have little value other than pure inspiration (could we really expect to see that same street performer on that random side street in Paris?).
All of this has led us to start this blog. It is our attempt to make use of all of our hard work by creating a simple resource for anyone that has ever asked themselves any question about long-term travel. We hope you find it inspirational, useful, and entertaining.
